I demonstrate how to clean the blower wheel. Their seems to be an issue with Windows Movie Makers speed effects. That’s why it slowed way down in a spot. I had rendered this video four times trying to correct the problem by fooling Windows Movie Maker to compensate for the issue. I was partially successful.

The air flow which form the air duct is very low on the 1st floor, and almost no air flow on the 2nd floor. The air also is not that cold

Just today, our blower motor started making a squealing sound. I suspect bearings going bad. How much does a replacement motor cost for these things? It’s on an old Bard furncace and it’s a 1/3 hp motor.
You should be able to buy an aftermarket brand motor for under $100.
A good coil cleaning could make the difference.

Bleach can kill mold.
Any special precautions needed around the capacitor?
It’s a good idea to short the terminals together after turning off the power.

hey Dr Z..first off great video’s!!!..quesition for you..my friend just got a new ac system,and i want to use his old blower motor as an exuast system for my hydroponic garden..it’s and single faze motor 120v..but im not sure on if it’s a muti speed motor,,but if it’s single faze..can i hook up and speed controler to it..and also do i need the capacitor as well…and last but not least can i just hard wire it ..then just plug it into a wall socket??..ty for your time..tommy
You should be able to plug in the blower to a 120 volt wall socket. You’ll need to keep all of the blower components intact.

put a little anti-seize in hub bore and make sure you tighten shaft set screws on flat of motor shaft. Makes it easier for next tech or you if you come back to work on blower.
I have never ever commented on a video on youtube, but i have to say THANK YOU! I was about to pay a couple hundred dollars to have my blower cleaned. I did it myself thanks to this video! The fan was terribly dirty and clogged. My heat would take an hour to raise the temp 1 degree…now with a clean fan it takes only 20 minutes.

Blow out the motor with nitrogen. The rag wont get the dust and dirt out of the windings.
I googled check hvac blower and found your video. I have no HVAC experience but your video gave me the confidence to investigate this serious vibration issue with my upstairs unit. Everytime it comes on it shakes and rattles the ceiling. So after watching your video I climbed in the attic, pulled the blower out and cleaned it. I found a piece of foam stuck in the fins. I put it back together and works like a charm and super quiet again! Thanks for the vid. I couldn’t have done it without you!
