A start cap usually has a bleed resistor between both terminals that neutralizes any stored charge.

I am an HVAC student, your vids really help me to stay ahead of the class. THANKS

I was told that that blob of solder on the cap is called an Identified Terminal.

Shouldn’t you be using a 20,000 Ohm Bleed Resistor? Or is that only when you are discharging a Start Cap??

  11. DrZarkloff says:

I rarely see bleed resistors on run capacitors only start caps.

i’m having trouble identifying a capacitor i’m trying to replace but all it says is “80 uf, 370 VAC and 50/60 HZ”. What does it mean?

  13. DrZarkloff says:

Just take that information to the air conditioning parts store and they’ll be able to hook you up.

  17. DrZarkloff says:

I guess you should have the part embedded in your mind. lol

  18. cutty02 says:

it means the capacitor is 80 micro farads and can take a load up to 370 volts on a 50/60 hertz alternating current. hope that helps

hi. DrZ! thanks for your support! well my problem is, the hvac´s fan is running way slower than it used to when new, i cleaned it up the way you show in another video but nothing, can the run capacitor (almost 10 years of use) make the fan run slower??? should i replace it?

  24. fedelocobocche says:

another thing, the hvac is already set to HI speed (blows way to slower than it used to blow when new, set to SLOW position!!!!!)

  25. thedisplacedcanuck says:

Doc, you’re off on this one. the purpose of the run capacitor is to bring the current, and voltage in phase with each other. since power is voltage times current, maximum power is achieved when both volts and amps are peaking at the same time. i’m new to HVAC, but I KNOW electronics.
